This chapter was absolutely riveting. I can only imagine Toph's fear for Lin after that last comment Marc made before leaving her. It is very believable if Lin survived some hostage situation as a child and didn't want to have children for that very reason. She didn't want them to be a target for ransom if she were Chief of police because that love for one's own child can be so powerful and overwhelming.
I have one question though, what material was the necklace Toph was wearing? Couldn't she have metalbent that with her face, like how Bumi metalbent shingles to free him from a hanging cage in his escape from Fire Nation imprisonment in Omashu?
